New ‘Hitchcock’ Clip & Featurette

It’s been a while since the trailer came out to much praise, especially from us here at Retrospect Realm. See our review of the trailer here. Well, today they released a new clip and a featurette.

First, watch the clip.

Nothing much, just a couple added lines to what we saw in the trailer. What I really liked about this clip is Helen Mirren’s weirdo smile and expression at the very end of the clip. Very Norman Bates end scene psychotic smile-esque, eh?

Don’t forget to check out the featurette which has multiple new clips and discusses the importance of Alfred Hitchcock’s wife,

‘World War Z’ Trailer Review – June 21, 2013

We Switched Sites!

IMDb lists this as “A U.N. employee is racing against time and fate, as he travels the world trying to stop the outbreak of a deadly Zombie pandemic.” Besides the fact that this trailer shows us absolutely nothing as to why there is a zombie outbreak is beside the point. This actually looks kind of awesome. Not that I’m saying it was be a genuinely good movie, but it will be entertaining. Zombie’s mimicking the Spongebob episode of Plankton’s army joining forces to bridge up to something. Well, yeah, of course they weren’t mimicking that, but that’s what it reminds me of when I watch the trailer.

The film stars Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, and David Morse with it being directed by Marc Forest, written by Damon Lindelof, and adapted from the novel by Max Brooks. I’m not too excited about Brad Pitt. I’ve just never really liked him much so that’s just me.

Some people are dissapointed for this trailer because ‘it isn’t like the book’. Aren’t all book adaptions never exactly like the book? I’ve never read the book, but I don’t really care. I’m just excited to see the movie.

‘World War Z’ hits theaters June 21, 2013.

‘Taken 2’ 2012 Review – Movie Monday

‘Taken 2’, the sequel to the movie ‘Taken’, was something I had kind of looked over at first, never having seen the first Taken. I knew the concept though, he goes to Paris and his daughter gets kidnapped, then he does some stereotypical action movie hero stuff to rescue his daughter.

Taken 2 was pretty much the same thing, except he’s going to Istanbul for business, and decides he might bring his family along too. The vacation starts off relatively normal, with them being amazed at how beautiful the city is, putting some clear emphasis on the Hagia Sophia while doing so. The city looks pretty cool at first, they have a nice hotel room with a nice view, but then of course. The enemies strike. I won’t spoil it beyond that (I tried not to say much). It’s not a terrible movie by any means, but its very very generic. It’s got some gunfights and whatnot, but it seemed like they spent  2/3rd of the movie introducing the scene and showing them having fun. The very end where he actually gets kidnapped and all the other stuff, happens really really quickly. It felt like an action movie where maybe only the second half was action. The first half gets very boring, they spent way too long trying to introduce the location and the characters.

Second off, I think pretty logically, and being as such I saw so many dumb things the enemies did. I won’t give examples spoiling the movie, but it was some pretty simple stuff, like not checking him and confiscating things that he could use to escape, such as a cellphone, or a radio tracking device. I could list other things, but I don’t want to give hints as to what happens in the movie. The enemies were overall pretty stupid. Don’t get me wrong, the actual action part isn’t too bad, its pretty entertaining. They just made some obvious flaws in the plot, and how they laid out the movie.

I give it a 75%, points because the action wasn’t bad, but it really isn’t that hard to make good action, just some gunfights and explosions and car scenes will do the trick. The plot was the exact same as the last movie, no real originality, it wasn’t very well thought out either. I think they were just trying to make a cash grab with this one, making a frail and weak plot to try and connect it to Taken, just so they could call it a sequel and sell it. You won’t be wasting your time if you’re a fan of action movies, just don’t expect anything amazing for the first hour.

Gabe Newell Confirms New Valve Engine

/v/ the infamous 4chan video games board, went to Valve headquarters for Gabe Newell’s birthday on November 3rd. Following some not so important stuff like a giant birthday card, a life sized TF2 crate, and Gabe Newell having to pay $2.50 to get the key for it, there followed a casual 52 minute Q and A session.

Skip to about 6:10 for the exchange between fans and Gabe Newell about the new Engine.

This doesn’t come as a surprise, as over the summer, people found reference to ‘Source 2’ in the Source Film Maker files, however it is nice to have official confirmation about a new game engine.

Speculation on the subreddit /r/games seems to think Half life 3 will be the debut game, as Half Life showed off Goldsrc, and Half Life 2 showed off Source.

‘Flight’ 2012 Review

This movie is a prime example of how movies dramas are still relevant in these modern times, where TV dramas like Breaking Bad, Homeland, and Boardwalk Empire get all the talk. It’s a prime example, because it shows that not all drama stories these days need to be 5 season long stories, but can rather be a two and a half hour story, and still be fantastic.

Story: The story is extraordinarily well done, as it accurately portrays how people would act in those situations. It touches on relationships with the people who are there to try and help Whip. Despite Whip being a normal alcoholic who doesn’t deserve all the love he’s gotten, one can’t help but feel pity for him, as he means to do the right thing, but as a true alcoholic, he can’t help but return to the bottle.

Music:  Flight features a good soundtrack, with songs by various artist, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and many others. The music just goes so well the movie, fitting into the scenes that they’re used in perfectly.

Cast & Characters: The cast delivered their roles fantastically. Denzel Washington as Whip Whitaker, the main character, accurately portrays how an Alcoholic works. Don Cheadle gives a great performance as Whitaker’s lawyer, who is on top of his game, very confident, and only wishes the best for Whitaker. Other notable characters include John Goodman who plays Whitaker’s drug dealing friend, who provides comic relief in some tense situations. Kelly Reilly, who plays Nicole, the love interest of the film, is also great in playing her role as a recovering addict to drugs and alcohol.

Verdict: Go see this movie now. This movie’s story is fantastic, the cast and the characters are just absolutely great. This movie, is possibly the best movie of the year in the Author’s opinion.

Interview With George Lucas & Kathleen Kennedy On ‘Episode VII’

Michael Arndt To Write ‘Star Wars Episode 7’

Just a day after Vulture dropped a rumor that the writer of the 2010 Pixar Animation smash-hit, ‘Toy Story 3′, was writing a treatment for S’tar Wars: Episode VII’, Lucasfilm finally confirmed that Michael Arndt would be writing the screenplay for the first of ‘The Sequel Trilogy’.

Michael Arndt won an Oscar for writing 2006’s ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ and, as said above, 2010’s ‘Toy Story 3’.

Just after Disney had bought out Lucasfilm Ltd. for $4.5 billion dollars and announced ‘The Sequel Trilogy’ for Star Wars films as well as even more Star Wars films that would come out “2 to 3 years apart”.

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ is set to blast into theaters sometime in 2015.

‘Skyfall’ 2012 Review

‘Skyfall’, the 23rd installment in the James Bond series, is the 3rd movie starring Daniel Craig, who I thought did a great job in ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Quantum of Solace’. As in those past two movies, this one starts off with a chase scene, in which a fight occurs with a ‘bad guy’ who seems to be wielding a rather phallic machine gun, aside from that, it was both action packed and kept your attention, with some plot in between.

Of course, just with the other movies there are several references to the older movies, so see if you can spot some of those. There’s good humor, giant explosions, and I thought all of the characters did well acting.

Also an interesting tidbit, this was one of the only James Bond movies written originally, as many of the other movies have taken their plots from various James Bond books, originally written by Ian Fleming. Many of the movies were originally written as books, and if you already didn’t know that, look them up, you’d be surprised at how many began their life in text form. Anyway, this one was never in text form, making it written for the sole purpose of being a movie. I thought the plot was pretty well done; the bad guy was both likable and unlikable, and there were some good fights. I’m worried to say too much about the plot in the fear that I might spoil some of it, so I can’t really give examples backing up why it’s good. If I were to sum it up, I would just say ‘Because it’s a James Bond movie’, but to my knowledge that’s not what I’m supposed to be doing while writing this article.

It is really good however; it keeps you entertained with fighting, explosions, and good humor. Also, there’s something kind of big that happens in this movie, so if you’re an avid James Bond fan, go see it. Unlike the past movies, the bad guy also isn’t an idiot. He does a pretty good job of not being stupid, unlike another movie I recently saw, Taken 2(but I’m not reviewing that so I won’t go in depth.) Anyway, I give it a 93% because it has good fight scenes, good humor to keep up the interest when they’re not fighting, and a decent plot to follow as well. You should go see it.
