‘Gangster Squad’ Trailer #2 Review – January 11, 2013

As we reported earlier this summer, ‘Gangster Squad’ was going to have some of the film be re-shot and delayed due to the Colorado movie theater shooting at the midnight premiere of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. Parts of the film were to be rewritten and shot since there was a part in the trailer where men with tommy guns came from behind the screen in the theater and shot the crowd.

The re-shoots are done and we have a new trailer for the upcoming gangster epic. Yes, it does look epic. And to be honest, I think this new trailer is in fact better than the one with the shooting into the crowds of the theater. I think they went all out on this trailer to make up for the delay. If you still remember the other trailer before it was taken down and re-edited, then you watch this one, you’ll know that this trailer has a CRAPLOAD of more footage.

Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen looks to be a keeper with the “You’re talking to God, so you might as well swear to me”. You know, I’m still torn about this movie though. It looks REALLY good and seems to have a lot of new parts that will make up for the shooting into the crowds of the theater scene. This trailer makes it look amazing, but I’m still afraid that it will just be one of ‘those gangster movies’ and not like the greats like Goodfellas, The Godfather, Donnie Brasco. Of course, it can’t beat The Godfather or Goodfellas, but I do think it can be ask good as Donnie Brasco. I’m hoping. You’re hoping. We’re all hoping.

‘Gangster Squad’ hits theaters January 11, 2013. Don’t miss it!

‘The Dead Zone’ 1983 Review – AMC Fearfest

Story: I was really surprised by this one. The poster looks kind of stupid and the trailer is very misleading. The trailer makes it seem like if you touch this man’s hand, then you’re going to die. But no, in fact, you could be saved from dying. Also, not only does he just see into the future, he can see in the past too. Whoever they chose to market this did not do a good job, but it doesn’t matter since the movie is good.

Now I did not know that Stephen King had so many movies and tv series after his books. Heck, I didn’t even know ‘The Shining’ was based off of a Stephen King book. Well, ‘The Dead Zone’ proves to be one of the best of the wave of Stephen King film adaptions of the early 80s.

With an interesting story and a great performance from Christopher Walken who is scary and friendly at the same time, this film would not have been the same without him. Martin Sheen plays a maniac who is running for president and after touching Walken’s hand in the film, Walken sees that he will become president and he will choose to bomb other countries when a diplomatic solution was offered right in front of him. Martin Sheen’s career and campaign for president was over after putting a baby in front of him as a shield from bullets you thought? You were wrong! (*wink wink* to West Wing fans).

Verdict: A chilling story from the mind of Stephen King on film with a great performance from the limping Chrstopher Walken who knows how to play a scary and caring man at the same time, ‘The Dead Zone’ proves to be one of the better Stephen King book adaptions.

DC Nation Pulled From Cartoon Network Lineup, To Return In January 2013

What is this conspiracy? I wake up on what seems to be a normal Saturday morning. I tune into Cartoon Network to see Ben 10: Omniverse just ending and The Clone Wars is about to start. So I watch The Clone Wars new episode, which was extraordinarly awesome like always, then I expect to see the 1 hour block of ‘DC Nation’. But what do I get? No, not Green Lantern: The Animated Series or Young Justice. I get the lame and boring How To Train Your Dragon spin-off for two straight episodes. New Young Justice and Green Lantern episodes did not air. After I stopped crying, I looked into the matter.

If you look on Twitter or Facebook, you’ll see many other angry fans arguing over the soon to be very controversial move by Cartoon Network.

Green Lantern producer Giancarlo Volpe explained that, “Apparently Cartoon Network preempted it in celebration of their 20th birthday. Their logic, not mine. I am very disappointed. […] Preempted means they replaced it (hopefully only temporarily) with How to Train Your Dragon.” Courtesy Of spinoff.com

DC Nation had just premiered this past March and has not dissapointed. Although the shows like Young Justice and Green Lantern TAS don’t live up to what the DC Animated Universe once was, and the new shorts such as Teen Titans and the Batman claymation are ‘decent’, DC Nation is a great block that everyone loves and wants back.

A little bit after the incident, Cartoon Network tweeted, “Hey #DCNation fans! Have you heard?? DC Nation will return in January with all new episodes!”

Are you kidding me? Green Lanter just began a new season and Young Justice is back from a freaking 6-month long or so hiatus. We’ve only gotten two new episodes from each then we have to wait two and a half months!?!? Come on!

‘DC Nation’ (Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Young Justice) will return to Cartoon Network in January 2013.

‘Shutter Island’ 2010 Review – AMC Fear Fest

Story: This was AMAZING. I did not expect it to be this good. Nobody really talks about this movie. But I guess Inception overshadows this in the year of 2010. Sure, it’s not as good as Inception to me, but it is amazing. Such a complex story that twists and turns and makes you think one thing, when it really isn’t. We’re seeing through the eyes of Teddy Daniels, which is pretty crazy itself. A horror film that does scare in it’s flashbacks and it’s views of the whole island.

Visuals: Look of the film was beautiful. Amazing cinematoraphy, great way to capture the horror of the asylum. The people in the asylum looked scary, everthing was great.

Music: Some odd choices of music I didn’t feel fit perfectly with the scene. Scorcese doesn’t seem to like to get a composer and settle down into some good score music. Nevertheless, it was pretty good.

Characters: Leonardo DiCaprio is good as ever, Mark Ruffalo plays a convincing Marshall. Everyone at the asylum looks to be insane and crazy, giving scary performances. When DiCaprio cries, you feel his sadness and anger. Great performances across the board!

Rewatch Value: I’m watching this one again in a couple days to make sure I absolutely understand everything. 😀

‘Hitchcock’ Trailer Review – November 23, 2012

So as I’ve said on this site a couple times now, I am looking forward to this film. Well, not only did we get a new poster and some stills, but we have the new full length trailer! Now I am REALLY excited.

Starting the trailer out with the classic Hitchcock quote “All of us harbor the dark recesses of violence and horror… I’m just a man hiding in a corner with a camera… watching”. After hearing that running with just a few clips, it’s practically a given that all people love Hitchcock films or just love films will love this trailer and will most likely love the movie.

We then get into the real stuff. We’ll see Alfred Hitchcock go hunting for his next film after his previous big hit in which someone says that he should go out on top. Helen Mirren, who plays Hitchcock’s wife, Alma, seems like she will be a huge part in the movie. I did not expect this much, but it only makes sense that she is. In this film, we’ll see more of what Hitchcock was like behind the doors of home then we had usually seen with the blank faced suited man who spoke and acted so very seriously.

But no, it won’t be all serious. Throughout the trailer we get some funny remarks such as the “I promised mother, I wouldn’t tell” and the one about Scarlet Johannson’s breasts being “rather large”. I am really pumped for this movie. They also are making a quick hurry to get this out because they think it is Academy Award worthy. And let me tell you, by the looks of this trailer, it certainly does look like it!

‘Hitchcock’ stars Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock, Helen Mirren as Alma Hitchcock, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles and Michael Stuhlbarg as agent Lew Wasserman. Danny Elfman is also set to score the film.

‘Hitchcock’ hits theaters on November 23, 2012. Don’t miss it!

New Poster & Stills For ‘Hitchcock’ Released

]

Oh yes, some more news on one of the films I am anticipating most within the last months of the year. A brand new poster along with some still photos from shooting have been released for our eyes to feast on.

I really LOVE this poster. It is made in the style of the old ‘Psycho’ poster back in the day. It shows us glimpses of the main stars along with our first looks at Helen Mirren as Alma and Jessica Biel as Vera Miles.

Along with the new poster, four new stills from shooting were released to the public also. See below:

Scarlett Johannson looks to be the perfect girl to play Janet Leigh even though her hair looks so much like a wig. Anthony Hopkins looks to be like an exact copy of Hitchcock and James D’Arcy has that weird expression on his face which makes me feel weird… and good that he’s the one playing Norman Bates.

Charlie Brown & The Peanuts Coming To The Big Screen

We’ve all watched the Peanuts and Charlie Brown. And we’ve all loved them. Every Halloween, we watch the holiday theme episode that airs on TV and always has since the beginning of time. That’s right. The beginning of time.

The 65th anniversary is coming in a couple years so preparations for something to celebrate is in order. That being said, 20th Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios have decided to do so.

Co-director Steve Martino of ‘Horton Hears A Who!’ and ‘Ice Age 4: Continental Drift is watching over the Peanuts production which will be written by Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano.

“We have been working on this project for years. We finally felt the time was right and the technology is where we need it to be to create this film… I am thrilled we will be partnering with Blue Sky/Fox to create a Peanuts movie that is true to the strip and will continue the legacy in honour of my father” said Craig Shulz, son of Charles Shulz.

Details and information of the plot have not yet been released, but with two relatives of Charles Shulz in the writing seats, it’s sure to follow some of the comics and have the style of the old cartoons we know and love.

The film is set to hit theaters on the exact anniversary, November 25, 2015.

7 Minutes Of ‘SKYFALL’ Score By Thomas Newman

With the 50th Anniversary of James Bond last week and the release of Adele’s new song that will be the theme song for ‘Skyfall’, Sony and Eon are making another push for the music of the film. In the above video, you can listen to Thomas Newman’s  7-minute (6:51 to be exact) preview of the score for Skyfall  thanks to Cinema Musica. Thomas Newman is taking over for David Arnold to be alongside long time partner, Sam Mendes who have worked together on numerous projects.

After listening to the preview, it’s obviously all good and just as good as the other films, nothing really different and pretty much the same blue prints of the other Bond scores in previous films..

For the full soundtrack, you’ll have to wait till October 29 but until then, you can see the track listing at Film Music Reporter. Be alert though, some of the titles are a bit spoilery. Just letting you know.

See ‘Skyfall’ in theaters October 26 (UK) and Novermber 9 (US).

‘A Good Day To Die Hard’ Teaser Trailer Review – February 14, 2013

Seeing this teaser trailer in my inbox last night I went crazy with joy. Another Die Hard movie? Heck yes.

So not too long ago, we got the first image from the film off of Entertainment Weekly,

The new installment of the smash hit series with Bruce Willis’ ex-NYPD officer and endlessly frustrated nomad John McClane goes to Moscow, trying to figure out some serious international trouble while also attempting reconnect with his estranged son, Jack, played by Jai Courtney.

One thing that bothers me is that Bruce Willis and his ‘estranged son’ look nothing alike. They might as well of got Joseph Gordon-Levitt and put makeup on him again to play his son. Actually, I would’ve loved if they did that.

With the whole teaser trailer filled all the way with action, explosions, guns, cars, a hot girl, and practically no dialogue, we are still in awe at what is to come on February 14, 2013.

Bruce Willis speaks at the end with the humorous line of ‘007 from Plainfield New Jersey”. Directed by John Moore, get ready to Die Hard on the Good Day of February 14, 2013.
