‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ 2004 Review – Movie Friday

Story: This was like SO AMAZING I don’t even know how to explain it. EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING about this movie I absolutely LOVED. I only watched this movie because a friend of mine down the street told me Christian Bale first used the Batman voice in this movie. So he gave me the DVD and I looked at the cover… I was thinking “Ah this is gonna be 2 hours of suckishness”. But Hayao Miyazki (the director) proved me wrong! He’s like the freaking Japanese Walt Disney! This is based on a novel of the same name. It was made in Japanese but since John Lassetter, one of the creators of Pixar has a burning love for Miyazaki and all of his movies, he put one of Pixar’s directors, Pete Docter in charge of putting the English dub on. Anyways,  this is full of creativity, one of the greatest stories I’ve ever seen told in a cartoon movie.

Visuals: Amazing. That’s all I can say. The transformations of Howl. Him oozing everywhere  (sounds nasty, just ignore it till you watch the movie). The wicked with of the west’s young and old looks, along with Sophie’s. I wouldn’t change a thing about how this film looks.

Music: With everything else being sooooooo good, you wouldn’t expect the music to be fantasticly awesome too, would you? Well, just listen to the theme song then tell me if this didn’t deserve an A+.

Characters: Howl, Sophie, Turnip, Calcipher, the Wicked With Of The West, that little boy, everyone had a perfect amount of screentime and was well-developed.

Rewatch Value: I loved this movie so much I’m looking into watching some more Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki films. I’m also looking to buy Howl’s Moving Castle on DVD for my own library. The same friend who lent me Howl’s Moving Castle also has ‘Spirited Away’ which is considered Miyazki’s greatest film. My sister also has ‘My Neighbor Totoro’. So look forward to that review.

Pixar Running Out Of Ideas? Finding Nemo 2? Toy Story 4?

So far Pixar has created numerous amounts of films. All of them, and I mean all of them were amazing. But since the release of Pixar’s most recent two films, Cars 2 and BRAVE, many are thinking this could be the fall of Pixar. Could this really be the fall?

Before Cars 2, Pixar came out with Toy Story 3, probably their greatest creation. Toy Story 3 also became the highest grossing animated film of all-time. It seemed like the perfect way to end one of the greatest stories for kids and adults. It would seem that Pixar only cares about entertaining families… BUT DON’T STOP THERE. EVERYONE BREAKS EVENTUALLY WHEN MONEY IS INVOLVED. TOY STORY 4 IS RUMORED TO BE IN PRE-PRODUCTION.

In an interview with Tom Hanks, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-13923988 , he said that he thinks another installment of the Toy Story saga is “being worked on”.

Sure, it’s Toy Story, it’d probably be great. But I really hope they don’t go through with this. Toy Story 3 seemed like the perfect way to end a great trilogy.

I’m told he’s now officially come aboard the Finding Nemo sequel and has a concept the studio loves. Pixar continues to not be helpful on this, as they don’t comment on development. It’s understandable why Disney and Pixar would be excited by this. Stanton won two Oscars for his animation work on Wall-E and Finding Nemo.

A Finding Nemo sequel? Does Nemo get taken again? Are you kidding me? Well, that’s what we were first thinking when we heard of a Taken 2 sequel, “Is his daughter getting taken again? How irresponsible do you have to be to get taken AGAIN?” Rumor is that Marlon is taken this time and Nemo has to find his dad. So will it be named Finding Nemo 2? Or Finding Marlon? Doesn’t have a nice ring to it.

Surely you’ve seen the teaser trailer to Monsters: University.

I’m not sure about this. Cars 2 had a VERY different feel from the first. I was like “Secret agents? wut…” Hopefully this will be just as good as the first, Monsters Inc.

So is Pixar running out of ideas? Maybe not. Good ideas? Probably. Since John Lassetter is a huge fan-boy of Hayoa Miyazaki, the mastermind behind Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, maybe they should try and get him on board to make his own Pixar film. Or maybe at least just think up the story to one since they’d probably have difficulties communication since he only speak Japanese.

Of course, Pixar has three original stories slated for 2014 to help us bide our time, including The Good Dinosaur, directed by Up co-director and writer Bob Peterson; an unnamed project from the Toy Story 3 team about the holiday Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead); and a Docter-directed (he did Up and Monsters, Inc.) untitled movie that goes inside the human mind.

That seems like somewhat re-assuring news, doesn’t it?
