‘Person Of Interest’ Season 2 Premiere Review – 2.01

My favorite show on television is back! The CBS hit Drama series, ‘Person Of Interest’ returns off of the huge Season 1 cliffhanger we were left with! With the whole main cast returning for a second season, Jim Caviezel (John Reese), Michael Emmerson (Harold Finch), Taraji P. Henson (Detective Joss Carter), season two is expected to be just as exciting as the first.

In the beginning of the episode, we finally get to hear what Reese hears while picking up the payphone. Letters are read to Reese as he immediately goes to FInch’s lair and deduces what the letters mean.  He uses Finch’s books in his personal library to find that Finch is read the numbers from the Machine in which he uses the Dewey Decimal System to put the numbers together for a social security number. He finds the man who the social security number belongs to thinking it will lead him to Finch. To Reese’s surprise, Finch and the Machine did not intend for the Machine to help find out what happened to Finch if anything ever happened to him, but to have the ‘Contingency’ continue on the work, being Mr. Reese.

Reese goes on taking care this week’s trouble making and tricky person of interest, Leon, while still trying to track down Finch. He continues to talk to cameras while appearing insane to Leon. The Machine finally gives in and decides to help John. The Machine gives John a newspaper article of a missing 14-year old in Texas many years ago, Caroline Turing, or known as ‘ROOT’, Finch’s kidnapper. Reese shows up at Carter’s house and tells her to pack her bags because they’re Texas.

With this weeks flashback, we get Finch taking the Machine out for some test runs and training it to ‘protect everyone’ and not himself, which would explain why the Machine initially made no effort to look for Finch after he went missing. The Machine is seen to have a few bugs which Finch will eventually iron out.

Finch and Turing or, ‘Root’, have conversations in restaurants, diners, and stores, throughout the episode, with Turing praising Finch for his masterpiece. She then reveals that she doesn’t want to control the Machine after Finch says he won’t help her do it. She says she wants to ‘set it free.

Verdict: Returning with the tricky plot twists and government conspiracy that we loved in Season 1, Person Of Interest is sure to be just as great as the previous season… especially since Reese has a new dog. 😀

‘Elementary’ Series Premiere Review – 1.01

This was MUCH better than I expected it to be. Seeing so many promos and commercials for this online and on TV just made me think it wouldn’t be good since they spent SO MUCH time advertising with with the whole ‘Sherlock Holmes in modern times in New York… and WATSON IS A GIRL’.

Starring Johnny Lee Miller (Sherlock Holmes) and Lucy Liu (Dr. Joan Watson), ‘Elementary’ focuses on Sherlock Holmes (Obviously…) and his companion who will make sure he stays clean for six weeks since he just got out of rehab for cocaine addiction. Just like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes tales, Johnny Lee Miller’s interpretation of Sherlock Holmes has a cocaine addiction, or had a cocaine addiction rather.

This episode has the likeable and classic Sherlock Holmes psychology twists with him knowing exactly everything there is to everything their possibly is. He is able to deduce his ever so good observations to the point that they become blatantly obvious so they become humorous.

Johnny Lee Miller, like EVERYONE who has EVER played Sherlock Holmes, he is great at his own interpretation. Like every actor to play the great detective, he has added his own flare to the role to keep the character entertaining with the new modern setting in the lovable city of New York. Lucy Liu always seems to be a solid character in the new series in the gender flip of ‘Dr. John Watson’. She isn’t bland or anything but keeps us guessing even with Holmes being able to know everything about her with only a glance at her. Her previous medical skills and knowledge proves she was a great doctor and surgeon, even though she made a mistake by killing a patient once, so she does bring something to the table and isn’t just his ‘valet’.

One of the things I noticed was the music used in this episode. It was very much trying to be a copy of Hans Zimmer’s score to Guy Richie’s Sherlock Holmes films, but a modern pattern on it with some ‘techno beats’ added to it. That music was not the only thing I found that was similar to Guy Richie’s Sherlock Holmes films. The flashbacks as Sherlock describes what he has deduced and unraveled in the mystery. Both the films and the show use high key color correction and grading with choppy and fast paced editing while cutting back to Sherlock narrating the events.

Verdict: With the common ‘case of the week’ kind of thing like CBS does for almost all of it’s shows, ‘Elementary’ seems to be promising if you are into the weekly mystery with the added psychology twists and observation from Sherlock Holmes.

‘Vegas’ Series Premiere Review – 1.01

I’m sorry people, but this DID NOT live up to my expectations at all. I was very disappointed. It’s about the mob, Las Vegas, and sheriff’s from the mind of Nicolas Pilegii. The third god of Goodfellas and Casino with Martin Scorcese and Robert De Niro. So what went wrong?

First of all, CBS is taking a huge gamble here. Last fall proved that period shows do not go so well with the straight off cancellations of ‘Pan Am’ and ‘The Playboy Club’. That’s two shows. Not one, but two.

So why would CBS take this gamble? They are putting this whole show on the line advertising Dennis Quaid as the star and god here and there along with Michael Chiklis. To be honest, I don’t find Dennis Quaid all so cool. He’s nothing special really. Sure, he’s a good actor. But the only thing I find of him to be memorable is ‘The Parent Trap’. And Michael Chiklis? He’s trying so hard to be tough but just like ABC’s ‘No Ordinary Family’, he fails to be a tough guy even though he tries so very hard. As a side note, No Ordinary Family was cancelled after its first season with a huge ass cliffhanger.

The beginning was kinda lame. Dennis Quaid comes to the airport pissed since Vincent Savino’s plane flew in and disturbed his herd. Then Quaid just beats everyone up.

As the episode went on, we saw that the blueprint of each episode is going to be ‘case of the week’ style. The case for this pilot episode was extremely boring and not interesting at all. No twists, no turns, just a plain case to solve.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to like this one. It’s Nicolas Pileggi as the writer for crying out loud. I do hope it picks up a lot as the season progress.

‘NCIS’ Season 10 Premiere Review – 10.01

Like they always are, this episode was pretty much the same as any other episode of ‘NCIS’. A lot of the stuff that was made a big deal out of in the trailers, commercials, and promos for the Season 10 premiere really didn’t live up to anticipation. Ziva and Tony got out of the elevator fine, not anything different from their usual ‘tease their crush’ routine. Gibbs is depressed and pissed like he always is, Ducky seems to be perfectly fine by the end of the episode, and Abby is her usual weird and just cool self.

But what about McGee? Everyone freaked since he was the only one absent in the promos! He’s perfectly fine after his first appearance in the episode. He discovers he has a huge piece of glass in his torso so he goes off and gets that fixed then he’s fine.

The whole NCIS headquarters seems to be fine once we really get into the episode. It seems like this didn’t really leave any long term effects other than Gibbs a the whole NCIS being pissed that someone tried to blow their headquarters up.

I was kind of disappointed by this one. It was not a bad episode, don’t get me wrong. It just did not live up to the whole ‘major tragedy’ vibe they were trying to give off in the promos. Anyways, if you love the NCIS vibe and setting that is in every episode, keep watching. This new season will definitely be as great as past seasons. I’ll definitely be watching till the series ends.

‘Hawaii Five-0’ Season 3 Premiere Review – 3.01

I would say this was a bit disappointing. But it didn’t disappoint because I expected it. So in a way, it did live up to my anticipations. My not so good anticipations that is.

Anyways, McGarrett’s mother seemed cool. We’re all happy he finally gets his mother back the BAM! Just like Joe she’s somewhat of a badguy. Soon we’ll find out that his father is alive or something too. So yeah, we started the new season off right from where we ended it. Kono is pushed into the water and begins to drown then suddenly, random asian man appears in the water to save her out of nowhere. It turns out the random asian man is the son of the man Joe kidnapped. Well, where the heck did he come from and how did he know anything about her?

About 30 minutes later in the episode, we find out Chin called him to save Kono after he chose to go and save his wife at home. Then at the end of the episode, Kono and the random asian man have suddenly hooked up or something and are now dating which was totally random.

Lets not forget Danny’s situation. Other then just sitting around and watching while his co-workers are being attacked from their own personal enemies while he has none since he’s a boring loser, he finally makes an enemy out of his ex-wife. She wants to take their daughter Grace to Las Vegas with her and her new husband. Why would she dare do this? Danny helped her give birth to the child that wasn’t even his and saved their daughter along with her new husband and this is how she repays him? He should just shoot her.

Breaking News: Hawaii Five-0 is now a Sci-Fi TV show. Steve brings his mother back to the US and assures her Wo Fat is going to a maximum prison to find out that Wo Fat was kidnapped in the most unnecessary way possible. Stealing the transport van with a helicopter to drop it in the ocean then cut the doors off when they could’ve just simply ambushed the transport or at least dropped the car on land somewhere. Could’ve been done way more efficiently. This was just a failed attempt at being awesome.

So Steve puts his mom with his girlfriend from the military, who is now a main cast member. She’s cool, so I’m happy about that. Wo Fat comes to the house and she stupidly goes outside. Wo Fat escapes after two or three shots are heard from upstairs.

This is really stupid here. Steve’s girlfriend asks “What happened?” to which she replies “He got away”. Why did they have to examine the bullet to find out that she had to of let him go? It’s pretty easy to see that something’s not right there. Two shots fired and no blood or anything and Wo Fat is gone AGAIN? She was doing this since before Steve’s girlfriend was born and she couldn’t think of a better way to cover it up? COME ON NOW.

After Chin’s wife dies he goes back home and looks in the oven. THE CHICKEN IS THERE. IT IS COOKED. BUT THE BIG QUESTION IS… CAN HE STILL EAT IT? NOOOOOOOOO. She left it out too long and forgot to put it away!!!! DAMN. So Chin begins weeping on the floor.

So this was kinda lame. Lets hope it gets better or something as the season goes on. CBS has a problem with hiring stupid writers for their shows. They need to fix that.

‘NCIS’ Season 10 Teaser Preview – CBS

Another new promo, teaser, trailer, preview, or whatever you want to call it for the CBS Fall Premieres. TV’s biggest drama and second most viewed show, ‘NCIS’.

So at the end of Season 9, like Hawaii Five-0, we were left with a cliffhanger. The NCIS building and it’s agents were shocked by a bomb by Harper Dearing. Ducky then had a heart attack on the beach after hearing of this news.

Just like Hawaii Five-0, the promo tells us what happened within the first five seconds. Ducky is alive and asks if everyone in alright to which Palmer tells him that he wasn’t able to talk to anybody yet.

The host of Entertainment Tonight tells us to look for the survivors. Gibbs and Abby are outside and alright with minor injuries. Tony and Ziva are inside an elevator trapped. Could this be a start of a romantic relationship? Possibly? Lets hope.

But where might McGee be? He was seen being blown back after leaving his computer while in the office? But other than that he is not shown in the teaser.

‘Gather’ reports Sean Murray, who plays McGee is signed on for the season so there is nothing to worry about. My guess is that he is fine and outside with Gibbs and Abby. They tried to trick us here is my guess.

Season 10 of ‘NCIS’ premieres Tuesday, September 27, 2012 on CBS.

‘Hawaii Five-0’ Season 3 Preview & Behind The Scenes

CBS is back with it’s fall premieres. Within five seconds of this TV spot, we see who Shellburn is and what she looks like. We’ve been waiting 3 whole seasons and it is revealed to us in a TV spot. Ok, ok, the TV spot would’ve sucked if they didn’t show her, I get it.

As a warning, this teaser shows major spoilers that some might not want to hear about. So if you don’t want to be spoiled, stop reading, and leave now.

Well, Wo Fat is back and he’s teamed up with Delano. An awesome twist, cause the Wo Fat Vs. McGarrett fights are always awesome. Delano says to him, “I know where to find the person who killed your father”. Shellburn killed Wo Fat’s father which has been said many times in previous episodes. So McGarrett’s mother killed Wo Fat’s dad! An amazing twist.

Also, if you pause at 0:24, when McGarret says he wants roadblocks and stuff to protect his mother after flying himself and her back to the U.S., Kono is right behind him… meaning she was saved after being dumped into the water. Obviously, she would be saved since she’s in the main cast, but I’m just pointing that out.

At 0:43 we see McGarrett’s mother with a brunnette woman. A new team member perhaps? Ooooo, yeah.

The beginning of the season will be interesting. Will McGarrett’s mom make it? Will Kono be saved? You don’t want to miss it!

‘Hawaii Five-0’ Season 3 premieres September 24 on CBS.

‘Vegas’ 2012 Season Preview – CBS

I’ve never really been into western, cowboy, or sheriff shows or movies. But this looks alright to be honest.

It stars Dennis Quaid as Sheriff Ralph Lamb who is a pretty cool actor and Michael Chiklis as Chicago Mobster Vincent Savino. When I think of Michael Chiklis I think of, well of course I think of bald, but I think of the Thing and the show ‘No Ordinary Family’, which was tragically canceled years ago after it’s first season.

Michael Chiklis does not look like a mobster. Or even a Vincent Savino. He looks like one of those strong guys who are softies.

But this is Las Vegas in the 1960s. Everyone loves Las Vegas. And we all love gangsters, mafia, and mobsters. Some of us like cowboys, westerns, and sherrifs. And we all love period things like 1920 – 1960s when things were cool and all that ruled the cities was class, beautiful people, and nice clothes.

This one looks pretty good. Look for my review of episode 1 after this premieres.

‘Vegas’ Premiere Tuesday, September 25, 2012 On CBS At 10/9c.

‘Elementary’ 2012 Season Preview – CBS

Until now, I did not know that the characters in this new series would be named ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘Joan Watson’.  I was under the impression the characters would just be based on Holmes and Watson, but no. It’s those same guys, just Watson in girl form, in the modern day.

Now, I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of the British show called ‘Sherlock’, but Elementary pretty much rips their idea off of that show but they think they can disclaim that accusation by making Watson and girl and putting the two in Manhattan. No you can’t. Don’t bring the un-originality of films these days to TV these days. Please, do not.

Now if this didn’t steal the idea from BBC Sherlock, I might have been a little more stoked for this. Don’t get me wrong, this looks like it’ll be a pretty good show to watch. But lets be frank here, sooner or later, Holmes and Watson are going to hook up or something. Making Watson a girl to set yourself away from BBC Sherlock really take away from the Sherlock Holmes stories. Holmes and Watson were like brothers. When you read the books you felt that warm brotherhood.

Obviously, Detective Javier Abreu, played by Manny Perez, will be like Inspector G. Lestrade from the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle books since he is not a fan of Holmes, but is somewhat rivaled by him.

Overall, looks like the show will be decent. I’ll be watching the first episode and I’ll review it here.

‘Elementary’ Premieres Thursday, September 27, 2012 On CBS At 10/9c.

‘Person Of Interest’ Season 2 Promo Released

Now this is literally my favorite show on television. Probably, one of my most favorite TV shows of all time. I came upon this promo by accident today while looking for some trailers to review. This was released not too long ago today, so I’m pretty excited.

This looks pretty awesome.  First we see Finch ordering the Machine to protect everyone. An obvious flashback to when he was first building the Machine.

Then we see Reese talking to Carter to which she asks, “Why do you think she took him?” and he answers, “I don’t know”. So obviously Finch tells Carter about the situation so she can help him. The description for episode one of season two says that Reese gets Fusco and Carter to help him find Finch which is believable since he needs all the help he can get.

We then see Finch’s face with a red square. So we know by now a red square around someone means they’re in danger. So is something about to happen to Finch or is it saying that because the Machine knows he’s still under Root’s custody?

Reese then starts talking to camera’s again, but OH LOOK! It’s an asian man standing next to him. Who is this? I read somewhere that the Person Of Interest for episode one was an asian man but I can’t confirm it as of now. Some more theories? He could have information about the Machine or perhaps know Finch or something about him somehow.

We then end with Reese taking out some guys and smacking a guy on a motorcycle right in the face! YEAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

So I loved this. If you’ve never watched Person Of Interest before, start watching it. I highly recommend you start with episode one of season one, because if you start when season two starts, you’ll be very lost. Especially when it shows flashbacks.

‘Person Of Interest’ Season 2 starring Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, and Taraji P. Henson premiere September 27, 2012 at 9/8 PM on CBS.
