‘SKYFALL’ Trailer 2 Review

To be honest, I’ve never seen any of the James Bond movies. Not Daniel Craig Bond movies, not Sean Connery movies, nothing. I’ve seen very little of the beginning of Casino Royale. I liked it. A lot. I’m trying to find them on DVD at my local video store, but they keep forgetting to pick them up from the warehouse. I’ll probably end up ordering Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace online.

But this, it looks pretty awesome. Only a fool would deny that. First, we see James Bond fighting on top of a train. He is then sniped at the order of the short white haired lady that I believe is one of his superiors. He then go underground and does some stuff. He comes back to MI6 to which people think he’s “lost a step” and didn’t have to come back.

When they say the case file of all the MI6 agents has been lost and MI6 agent photos with their names is shown on a computer, I have on question… Why is it on Youtube? Isn’t that stuff confidential? Even making it private or unlisted is extremely dangerous. Or maybe they’re taking the “Best place to hide is in plain sight” approach. Seems pretty stupid to me.

Looks like it’ll have a lot of action like all Bond movies and a lot of romance, probably introducing two more Bond girls. This one looks AWESOME.

What Happened To The Joker After ‘The Dark Knight’?

At the end of The Dark Knight, Batman caught the Joker finally, and the police arrested the Joker. Batman then goes on to stop Harvey Dent (Two-Face) and save Gordon’s family. So what happened to Joker?

The last we see of the Joker in The Dark Knight is him laughing upside down and the Gotham PD SWAT Team surrounding him, guns drawn. So what happened? Did they just arrest him and put him in jail? They most likely would put him in Arkham Asylum because they might classify him as insane. But is the Joker really insane? When James Holmes was in court, an expert said that insane is when you’re doing bad things and you don’t know what you’re doing, if you know exactly what you’re doing, you’re not insane. Joker was a tactical genius, so by the expert’s statements, we’d say he is not insane.

But anyways, he’d probably still be in Arkham Asylum. In The Dark Knight Rises, Arkham was shut down and all the prisoners were moved to Blackgate Prison. The Official Novelization of The Dark Knight Rises addresses this “Where is Joker Now?” question.

“Now that the Dent Act had made it all but impossible for the city’s criminals to cop an insanity plea, it (Blackgate Prison) had replaced Arkham Asylum as the preferred location for imprisoning both convicted and suspected felons. The worst of the worst were sent here, except for the Joker, who, rumor had it, was locked away as Arkham’s sole remaining inmate. Or perhaps he had escaped. Nobody was really sure. Not even Selina.”

That passage also answers if Joker would go to a special place if he was considered insane. Obviously, Joker would be kept away from everyone so he would cause absolutely no harm. But they keep him as the sole inmate in Arkham? Why would they even keep him in Gotham? That’s pretty dangerous even if he is locked away.

And maybe he’s escaped? He’s obsessed with causing chaos for Batman and Gotham, he would’ve returned and caused some more after hearing Batman took the fall for Harvey Dent’s crimes. So he couldn’t have escaped.

My guess is Joker is either as the novel says, the only inmate in Gotham, or he is far away from Gotham, or perhaps in a different country at a maximum security prison.

Nuke The Fridge states:

“From a historical standpoint, Adolf Hitler’s Deputy Leader of the Nazi Party Rudolph Hesswas convicted and sentenced to life in Spandau Prison on Oct. 1, 1946.  He was the sole occupant from 1966 until his apparent suicide in 1987.  By applying this form of punishment to Nolan’s Joker, there would be no one to talk to or play with.  Thus, driving the ‘Man Who Laughs’ into the further depths of his madness.”

That could have very well been possible for the Joker’s case too. In The Dark Knight Rises, the Joker was not mentioned once. Director Christopher Nolan stated that it was out of respect for Heath Ledger. But isn’t that some what of a smack in the face to Ledger after his stellar performance in 2008’s ‘The Dark Knight’? It could go either way, really.

Raging Bull 2? Lets Be Real!

As I was just doing some research and trivia on my favorite movies, I came across the Raging Bull page and began reading. A related search was ‘Raging Bull II’. WHAT???? A Raging Bull Sequel? My first thoughts were  “Old Robert DeNiro? Martin Scorcese?” But to my suprise, none of them were listed as anything, cast or crew, in the movie. So I did some more research.

Apparently, Martin Guigui directed Raging Bull II already and it is in post-production. Well, MGM heard of this news that they were making a sequel to their 1978 hit movie, and were angered by this news. So they filed a lawsuit against the company and producers. When MGM bought the rights from Jake LaMotta himself to make his memoir into a movie, they also bought the rights to his unwritten sequel. So because of this, the producers and director of the so called ‘Raging Bull II’ changed the name to ‘The Bronx Bull’ and cut any ties of it being a sequel to Raging Bull or a continuation of the 1978 hit.

The director even spoke on the matter,

“I understand because it’s such an iconic, beautiful and amazing first film, one of the great films maybe of all time. But our story has a lot more heart and I think it’s a beautiful depiction of who Jake really is.” -Martin Guigi, director of ‘The Bronx Bull’

Martin Scorcese also talked about if a sequel was possible for him earlier this year.

“I don’t think I could revisit the material, as they say. I think we said what we had to say at that time. All of us moved on. Different aspects of the same story basically keep making the rounds. […] Rise and fall and self-destruction and the suffering and somehow coming through, in some cases. Coming through the suffering so that you change in a way. I don’t know. It’s dealing with yourself, really. Ultimately, at the end of ‘Raging Bull,’ he’s looking in a mirror and he’s at comfort with himself, to a certain extent. He’s not fighting, he’s not beating himself up. That’s all. So, I don’t know where they’re going to go.” -Martin Scorcese, director of ‘Raging Bull’

How can you just claim to be making a sequel to someone else’s movie? That’s pretty stupid. That’s like me saying I’m making Star Wars Episode 7. I mean come on, lets be real now.

‘The Bronx Bull’ is set for a 2013 release starring William Forsythe as Jake LaMotta.

‘The Untouchables’ 1987 Review – AMC Mob Week

amcmobweek1

Story: I’ve watched the trailer to this movie probably a million times. For some reason, I’ve had a lot of trouble getting this on DVD. I don’t like getting DVD’s off of the internet, I prefer to just come across them in stores or at a meet up. You know, by chance. This movie was based on a true story. Well, the characters and setting were. The story was pretty good. I loved it. The baby stroller scene was so intense I was like “COME ON. GRAB THE STROLLER”. Then the guy started shooting at the baby and I was like NOOOOOO. The ending was great. “Mr. Ness, prohibition has ended, what will you do now?” “I think I’ll have a drink”. That was boss. I knew Al Capone wasn’t going to die because I know the story of Al Capone and all of his Mafia tales.

Visuals: The color looked a little bland at parts, like Donnie Brasco. That might be because I was watching it on a very low quality TV, but I don’t know. Brian De Palme is usually good with these things.

Music: Oh my gosh, I loved the music. I had been looking for a certain song for so long, and it just happened to be the theme song to this movie. Then I found out Ennio Morricone was the composer of this film. He is very underrated. I love that guy. A+ here.

Characters: Kevin Costner was just as good as he was in The Bodyguard, GREAT. Sean Connery won Best Supportin Actor for his role. Andy Garcia was pretty cool too. And Robert DeNiro? LOVED HIM. He had some great quotes in this too.

Rewatch Value: Beautiful film. I will definitely get this on DVD. I might even order it online. 😉

‘Donnie Brasco’ 1997 Review – AMC Mob Week – Movie Friday

amcmobweek1

Story: I was very impressed by this one. It’s based on a true story and it was very good. Going into this, I was thinking “Hey Johnny Depp is a cool guy, Al Pacino has a goofy overcoat”. That’s all I thought. I really didn’t know what it was about either, except that it had something to do with the mob. But to my suprise, I loved this movie. The ending was a little ehhh, but yeah, you know. They tried to stay to the real story and be as accurate as possible. They even got the real Joseph Pistone to be an advisor to the film to make sure they were staying true to the real story.

Visuals: The cinematography, lighting, and colors of the film were a little bland at parts, but overall, it was good.

Music: I didn’t notice much music really. I even tried paying attention to try and hear music. But I heard very little background music throughout the film. The opening credits music really fit with all the snapshots of Brasco and Lefty though. I even looked up that song after finishing the film.

Characters: Based on a true story, the characters were very interesting. Going into this, I couldn’t really imagine Johnny Depp playing a serious role after seeing films of his such as Pirates Of The Carribean, Willy Wonka, Alice And Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands, etc. As for Al Pacino, I did not like his big, fluffy, goofy coat he wore throughout the film.

Rewatch Value: Moderate. I’ll probably watch it again with my dad and so I can fully understand the story.
